The GTA VI Trailer Drops Early In Response to a Leak

The trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI is probably the most anticipated game announcement of the year, which explains why many leakers are hellbent on beating Rockstar Games to the punch. Someone managed to get a hold of it and posted it on X, so the studio had no choice but to post it a day early.

GTA VI's Trailer Dropped Today

Don't bother looking for the leak on X, formerly known as Twitter, as the account has already been suspended. Besides, you can already find the trailer on YouTube, and it will bring you back to an already familiar city from a previous game in the franchise.

It's been a decade since the last game, Grand Theft Auto V, was released, and we are so close to playing the next one. The trailer already revealed a release window for the game. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a little bit longer as it will come out in 2025.

The sixth game in the franchise will take place in the fictional Vice City, where the iconic character Tommy Vercetti was introduced. Several game-centric news sites have already predicted this based on leaks that have emerged over the years.

Another detail that has been speculated is now confirmed. We are getting a female protagonist in GTA VI named Lucia, who is knee-deep in a life of crime with her significant other. We even see a short glimpse of her in an orange jumpsuit.

Although the game takes place in the location of GTA Vice City, you will not recognize it since the mentioned game was set in the 1980s. Not to worry. The game will retain its premise of a city rampant with crime and American hedonism, as mentioned in The Verge.

Since Vice City is inspired by and based in Miami, Florida, you will see much of that Floridian charm throughout the trailer. The video shows crocodiles caught in pools, people in their bikinis dancing in yachts and balcony pools, and, of course, pickup trucks revving through the mud.

If the game's graphics are as good as the trailer, then we are in for a treat. It looks to be fairly detailed, and we already have built up expectations. If it's anything like Red Dead Redemption II, then we know that it will not disappoint.

Several Leaks Later and Here We Are

Rockstar Games had to put out a lot of fires over the years, particularly leaks that were posted in public by hackers. Either the studio needs to work on its cybersecurity, or fans are desperate enough to sneak a peak of the game to breach Rockstar Games.

In fact, a teenage hacker has been arrested for this very crime. Arion Kurtaj, the 17-year-old hacker, is rumored to be a member of the Lapsus$ hacker group. He is now facing 12 charges, including blackmail and fraud, as per IGN.

Kurtaj blackmailed Rockstar Games by saying that he would release the game's source code unless they contacted him through Telegram. Although apprehended, the hacker will not proceed to trial as he was deemed mentally unfit.
