Members include prominent tech institutions like AMD, Dell Technologies, Intel, CERN, NASA, Sony Group, Stability AI, Hugging Face, and more.

The purpose of the group is to advance "open and transparent innovation" to the development of new AI technologies.

According to the group, the AI Alliance will be committed to "develop and deploy benchmarks and evaluation standards, tools, and other resources" to regulate the growing AI ecosystem.

The alliance expects to work with other international groups to create opportunities for responsible AI research amid the surging demands.

IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna is proud to "partner with like-minded organizations" on steps in "defining the future of AI."

It is worth noting that neither Microsoft nor OpenAI, the leading AI firms worldwide, were not included in the list of members.

The OpenAI Impact: Growing Concerns on the AI Industry

The alliance was formed following the fallout of the leadership fight on OpenAI as concerns for ethical AI development were raised.

OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google have been the loudest critics of Meta's open development approach to AI, citing concerns of rampant disinformation if everyone has access to its development.

Meta has risked the ire of regulators several times after the release of its Llama model that bad actors immediately abused "for loads of personalized spam and phishing attempts."

The issue of open and transparent development was recently raised during the ousting of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman more than two weeks ago.

After Altman was reinstated, the AI firm had a more solid stance to prevent AI from being the doom of humanity.

Other Missing Participants

The absence of the three AI contributors is not the only presence missed in the alliance.

While several universities have participated in the Meta-IBM team-up, leading AI research academies like Stanford and MIT noticeably have yet to grace the alliance.

Nvidia, the leading supplier of AI chips, was also not present. Otherwise, its top rival AMD was in the group.

Sriram Raghavan, VP of IBM's research AI division, told TechCrunch that the 50-member roster is "just the starting point" and welcomes any group who are "strongly committed to open innovation and open source AI."
