Ubisoft has reportedly delisted The Crew from its digital storefront as the game is shutting down next year on March 31.
End of an Era for The Crew
The Crew landed on Ubisoft in 2014 as an open-world racing video game that was developed by Ivory Tower. Upon its launch, the game was met with mixed reception from gamers.
The game managed to bounce back with post-launch updates and expansion which helped boost the game's popularity and eventually release The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest.
The Crew's official Steam page already put a notice stating that the game is no longer available on Valve. Other digital stores like Xbox and PlayStation have also closed down. Once the servers shut down on March 31, fans will cease their access forever.
The Crew's Always-Online Nature
Ubisoft's racing game is known for its always-online nature, allowing gamers to experience the multiplayer content with friends. However, the game was also criticized with the same feature due to server issues and connectivity problems.
Moreover, the online game also became a problem for some as some players find it less appealing to play over time. Regardless, over its decade run, the game showcased a variety of cars, motorcycles, and off-road vehicles.
Players were allowed to customize their vehicles with different paint jobs, and parts, and perform upgrades to boost their performance. The Crew is not the only old game that has been delisted this year, hence some players can expect that more servers will be shut down in the future once the game fails to meet the competitive industry.
