HughesNet is bringing faster internet speeds for Americans living in rural areas with its Jupiter 3 satellite service offer.
The Starlink rival announced that it is giving US citizens still relying on satellite internet a new subscription plan with up to 100Mbps and 200GB priority data connection.
Offers start at the discounted price of $89.99 per month for Eliter and $109.99 for Fusion.
Despite the higher price tag, HughesNet hopes to ease limited data allowances and high latency that plagued many Americans living in rural areas.
Satellite connection is usually the only way people can use the internet in places far from urban cities, all at the cost of slower broadband speed.
The new service is set to start on Dec. 26, Tuesday.
HughesNet Says Jupiter 3 is Ready for Operations
The new subscription service is done thanks to HughesNet's Jupiter 3 satellite, launched in July this year.
The bus-sized geostationary satellite orbits the Earth at high altitudes, capable of providing 500Gbps in broadband capacity.
Jupiter 3 is equipped with 300 spot beams, a "state-of-the-art ground system," and artificial intelligence to "alleviate congestion and deliver a faster experience."
HughesNet has already completed several tests on the satellite and assured it is ready.
The announcement of the beginning of Jupiter 3's mission as SpaceX's Starlink is also starting its "direct to cell" internet services.
HughesNet Strategy on Competition with Starlink
Since Starlink became operational, HughesNet has begun focusing more on its rural and small business customers to reach new markets the SpaceX satellite has yet to shadow.
Starlink has received wide attention as it outperforms HughesNet at a much lower price in almost every category.
HughesNet is now offering fast internet speed to areas that cannot be reached by broadband internet.
