Android to Follow iPhone Battery Health Feature

iPhone users have been enjoying the privilege of knowing their battery health for years. Phone batteries naturally lose some of their capacity over time but there is no way for Android users to know it.

Previously, Android users would have to download a third-party application that would take days or weeks to analyze the data. Despite that, there is no assurance that the result will be as accurate as Apple does.

Fortunately, reports showed that Google has been working on the feature for the past year. With the release of Android 14, there is now an initial groundwork for the OS to track battery health information. This sparks a full potential for its upgrade once the Android 15 releases.

Google Introduces Battery Information

For Pixel phones that are running on Android 14, Google rolled out its new "battery information" page under Settings inside the About Phone tab. The page allows users to preview the manufacturing date of the battery and its cycle count.

Other features in Android 14 also preview the date of first use, charging policy, charging status, and state of health. The latter information refers to the battery's current full charge capacity. All of these are fairly new, but still an impressive groundwork for the upcoming battery-related features for Android phones.

Android enthusiasts were able to spot Google's development of the battery health feature through the Settings Services app, an extension of the Settings app on Pixel and other devices. The Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 is suspected to be the new "battery health" page but the details are still unclear for now.
