The selection comes after OpenAI and Altman's name ring throughout the year "marked a huge change for the public consciousness."

Bloomberg attributed the honor to the increased attention OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT received over the past months as more issues and opportunities arise in its integration in the tech industry.

The news organization itself has covered Altman's rise to fame since 2020, including the government's scrutiny over AI and his sudden firing last November.

Ahead of this recognition, Altman was also awarded as the 2023 "CEO of the Year" by the Time Magazine.

Why are People Talking About Sam Altman?

The year 2023 became the time Sam Altman's name was made known to the world after he was suddenly ousted by his fellow board members.

Altman's firing and eventual reinstatement have given many people a glimpse into the politics of the AI industry and the company advocating humanity's "last invention."

Further proof is seen as other Big Tech giants like Google and Apple scramble to release their own AI models to keep up with the competition.

Microsoft, OpenAI's leading investor, also took chances with the recent events after hiring Altman and former chairperson Greg Brockman into its new AI development division.

Even Altman's investment deals renewed people's interest in AI, for both the advantages and risks it poses to society.

Future of Sam Altman and OpenAI

Altman continues to discuss the evolution of AI in the current society, coming to podcasts and seminars around the world.

Bloomberg believes that "AI is going to continue to shape our lives next year" as more industries adapt to the emerging technology.

OpenAI has already formed a safety protocol to mitigate the dangers of AI from development throughout distribution and application.
