Whispp launched an AI-powered assistive phone-calling app feature that can enhance whisper and vocal cord-impaired speech to a user's natural voice in real-time, during the CES 2024.
Aside from CES, the company will also present the app on 4YFN Barcelona from February 26 to February 29.
Dutch AI Startup Pioneers App for People With Speech Disabilities
The Whispp app was an idea made by a Leiden-based startup that utilizes AI to convert speech disabilities like stuttering, throat cancer, vocal cord paralysis, and ALS, into the user's original voice. According to the company, diminished speech affected around 300 million people worldwide.
"Our solution aims to empower individuals in their daily lives and work. We're not just transforming voices; we're advancing communication by making it accessible to all and enhancing quality of life," Whisper CEO and co-founder Joris Castermans said.
The users can recreate their natural voice by uploading recordings of their past or current health voice which will be used during the conversion. The Whispp app can reach anyone on their mobile while the other person is not required to download the app.
Whispp Promotes Inclusivity, Innovation Solution
In an interview, Castermans revealed that his stuttering as a child inspired him to create the Whispp technology. The company is currently working with its lead investor LUMO Labs.
"To make this happen, we need and want to partner with mobile network operators and the largest technology companies in the world. We are confident that LUMO's vast experience and valuable network will boost our growth," Castermans added.
The Whispp app is now available on Apple App Store and Google Play for download. The app currently offers a free trial and will follow a subscription-based model with a starting price of $9.99 per month.
