LG G Pro 2 to be unveiled on Feb. 13?

LG doesn't want its G Pro 2 phablet to get lost in the Samsung Galaxy S5's announcement at MWC, so the company is holding an event before MWC likely to announce the smartphone.

Samsung and LG have always been rivals, but this year things got a little heated as both companies tried to be the first to launch a smartphone with a flexible display. Samsung was able to edge out LG with the launch of its Galaxy Round, but the company has not been able to ship the device to many regions. On the other hand, LG has shipped its first smartphone with a flexible display around the world, most recently in the U.S. on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

Many thought that LG was going to unveil the G Pro 2 at MWC but now the company has pretty much confirmed that it wants to announce the device before Samsung unveils its very highly-anticipated Galaxy S5. It's understandable that LG would want to reschedule, even though the G Pro 2 and Galaxy S5 are two completely different handsets. LG sent out media invites for an event it has scheduled on Feb. 13 in Korea.

ZDNET Korea posted an image of the invite for the event. The invitation makes no mention of what's going to be announced, but it does hint to LG's much-touted Knock feature. If you're unfamiliar with it, Knock is a cool feature LG introduced with its flagship LG G2, which allows users to tap on the smartphone's display in order to wake the phone. The event LG is hosting is called "knock-knock knockin' on", suggesting that the LG G Pro 2 the phablet will be announced on that day.

The LG G Pro 2 is expected to ship with a 6-inch 1020 x 1080 Full HD display and run Android 4.4 KitKat. It is rumored to use a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit, and 3GB of RAM in a clear sign it wants to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with similar specs. Other reported specs include a high-speed 4G LTE Advanced radio that provides faster network speeds, but LG has yet to make an official announcement.

We'll be covering LG's event and we'll bring you all the latest news on the LG G Pro 2.
