Google is conducting another batch of layoffs this week, this time "a few hundred roles globally" were eliminated from its advertising sales division.

Philipp Schindler, Google's chief business officer, claimed that the layoffs are brought by "a substantial channel shift" in the tech giant's organizational structure, Business Insider reported.

Schindler reasoned that the transition is made as more large clients are moving from its Large Customer Sales towards Google Customer Solutions, the platform for medium-level clients.

The CBO also cited AI for helping the tech giant place at a "profound moment" as Google aims to automate more of its advertising processes.

Displaced staff are given the chance to apply for other open positions in Google or receive the standard separation package.

The announcement dropped less than a week since Google also laid off hundreds of workers in its hardware division.

More Google Layoffs Expected to Come

According to The Verge, the two batches of layoffs in January is only the start of a series of job cuts that may affect up to 30,000 people.

For perspective, Google laid off more than 12,000 employees last year. That was before the tech giant increased the integration of its flagship AI across its services and products.

Recent reports have shown that the company has been downsizing since November last year after a huge hiring process during the pandemic for its Google Cloud and advertising divisions.

Google has yet to give an exact number of jobs cut off across its services.

IT Industry Suffers Continued Job Cuts

It is not like Google is the only Big Tech experiencing regular batch layoffs this past year.

Amazon recorded the biggest layoff in history last year with over 20,000 roles terminated.

Some lucky employees were able to be employed in other divisions, and less fortunate ones had to find new jobs from scratch.

Other tech giants like Meta, Apple, and Microsoft have also recorded large layoffs during this month last year.
