The Samsung Galaxy S series is the flagship line of the company. Over the years, the company has been unveiling a new lineup to impress its customers.
These days, companies have come up with a trend of refreshing their lineup every year. However, this could be an expensive venture for their customers who are targeting to lock the latest mobile phone.
Last year in February, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S23 Ultra which featured major upgrades from its predecessor Galaxy S22 Ultra. With less than a year in the market, the company has now introduced the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It can be daunting to choose between the two top flagship phones. Here are some comparisons between the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Galaxy S24 Ultra to help you decide on your next purchase:
Appearance
The S23 Ultra debuted in an aluminum frame with four color variants Green, Phantom Black, Lavender, and Cream. Meanwhile, the S24 Ultra came in a titanium frame spanning from Gray, Violet, Black, and Yellow.
Meanwhile, the S23 Ultra is slightly heavier compared to the S24 Ultra. Regardless, they both still sport that free stylus and ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint.
Battery
Nothing has changed between the battery capacity from the S23 Ultra to the S24 Ultra. Both are capable of fast charging, Qi wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. The batteries can charge 45W when wired and 15W without the wire.
Camera
When it comes to the camera there are various changes that Samsung implemented to differentiate the two Ultra phones. The main camera is still capable of capturing up to 200MP with an aperture size of F1.7.
Meanwhile, the telephoto camera of S24 Ultra can now handle up to 50MP as compared to the S23 Ultra with only 10MP. The digital zoom and the optical zoom capabilities are still the same for both of the phones.
However, Samsung equipped the S24 Ultra with AI-enhanced features. This includes the Generative Edit which can change the photo background and the Edit Suggestion feature which recommends possible tweaks to a captured photo.
Hardware
The system chip has only been upgraded by one generation so from Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Both are still in octa-core with a little boost on the GPU from Adreno 740 to Adreno 750.
As for the internal storage, users can still choose between 256GB to 1TB. Meanwhile, the RAM options for the S23 Ultra come in two options, either 8GB or 12GB, compared to the S24 Ultra's default 12GB RAM.
Final Verdict
Overall, Samsung has managed to deliver its promise of bringing AI to the S24 series. Aside from minimal upgrades, the only major difference that users will look into is the Galaxy AI tools.
Hence, if you are curious and if you are sure that you will use AI tools like Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, and Photo Assist, daily, then S24 Ultra will be a good purchase for you.
On the other hand, if you are keen to buy a Galaxy phone based on its other capabilities like digital zoom and its hardware performance, then the S23 Ultra will be enough for you.
Most importantly, you should consider as well your budget. The S24 Ultra starts its price at $1,299 while the S23 Ultra has a starting price of only $874.
