Google DeepMind Scientists Plan to Redirect Focus on Developing AI Model

A pair of scientists from Google DeepMind's AI division are reportedly discussing with investors to form an AI startup in Paris, according to Bloomberg.

The potential AI startup will focus on developing and creating AI models.

Google DeepMind Scientists to Start New AI Company

According to the report, the team has been talking to potential investors to gather the finances needed for the startup. DeepMind scientists Laurent Sifre and Karl Tuyls are currently discussing about what could become Holistic.

Bloomberg shared that the people familiar with the situation notified the publication that both scientists had been given notice to leave the company. Meanwhile, the venture would be focusing on building a new AI model.

Both Sifre and Tuyl are considered one of the lead scientists in their field. One indication that the pair is leaning toward building an AI model is the unusual financing round of over $220 million. Hence, people are speculating that the venture is focused on advanced technology.

France Becomes Hotspot for Startup Investors on AI Hubs

The report showed that the AI startup could be established in Paris, France. Recently, venture capitalists and business tycoons have been investing in startups from Parisian universities and AI hubs of Silicon Valley.

On the other hand, this is not the first time that someone from DeepMind left to establish their own venture. In 2023, Mistral AI was formed as an OpenAI rival.

The CEO of the Mistral had previously worked from DeepMind and had managed to raise the valuation to around $2 billion.
