LG has officially announced its new flagship phablet, the 5.9-inch LG G Pro 2. It will show off the phablet at MWC 2014 later this month.
Samsung and LG have been going head to head in the smartphone world for years and LG has now issued its response to the Galaxy Note 3 with its very own phablet, the LG G Pro 2. The smartphone packs in the latest and greatest in terms of specs and also has some unique customizations LG has added to make the 5.9-inch smartphone very user-friendly.
LG has added a new feature called Knock Code, which is an evolution of the popular KnockOn feature LG debuted with the G2. It allows users to power on and unlock their smartphone in one easy step by using the Knock pattern they've created on any area of the screen, whether the G Pro 2 is turned on or off.
"Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers' mobile lives," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree."
Another unique feature is something called Mini View, which allows users to comfortably use the 5.9-inch G Pro 2 by shrinking its display to a size from 3.4-inches to 4.7-inches, depending on their preference.
The LG G Pro 2 features a 5.9-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS display with Slim Bezel with a pixel density of 373 pixels per inch (ppi). The phablet is powered by a snappy 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, and 3GB of RAM to provide a fast and fluid user interface. It will be offered in two storage configurations - 16GB and 32GB - and users will also be able to expand storage through the use of a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards.
The G Pro 2's camera capabilities include 13-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilizer Plus (OIS+), the ability to record 4K Ultra HD, 120FPS HD video recording and slow-motion editing, and a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera for video chat and selfies. The handset ships with Android 4.4 KitKat and exclusive LG software customizations. Its wireless connectivity options consist of 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. It packs in a large removable 3,200 mAh battery, its dimensions are 157.9 x 81.9 x 8.3mm and weighs 172g. LG will offer the G Pro 2 in Titan, White and Silver.
LG has not announced what regions will get to see the LG G Pro 2, but the company will be showing off the phablet at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona later this month.
