Airbnb Justifies New Fees Based on Service Value

The vacation rental company defended the adjustment, citing that fees are made to "align with the value we provide our guests." Currently, most of the guest service fees range around 14.2% with the new cross-currency fee, it would bumped to 16.5%.

The booking subtotal included the nightly price and any additional fees charged by the host but exclusive of guest service fees and taxes. Regardless, the guest service fee could be reduced for stays that last more than 28 nights.

Meanwhile, guests are advised to check the service fee during checkout before they book the place to avoid any surprises with the fees.

"We reserve the right to change our service fees at any time, and will provide you with prior notice of any fee changes before they become effective," the company wrote.

On the other hand, Airbnb previously launched new features to enhance the user experience of both hosts and guests. The "Guest Favorite" label is given to listings with 4.9 stars above and has below one percent cancellation for hosts.

Moreover, the app also improved the overall rating chart so that potential guests can review the feedback depending on their relevance such as the type of trip or the length of stay.

Meanwhile, CEO Brian Chesky has been focused on continuing the growth of the company after the transition from the pandemic. At the same time, the company is aiming to expand in other countries such as Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.
