During the hearing on the state's economic development, Hochul revealed that the state of New York is supportive of Tesla's decision to develop the project. She also cited that it would open hundreds of jobs and will boost the region's innovation ecosystem.
"I'm also proud to announce that Tesla is investing $500 million to build their next supercomputer right here in Buffalo," she announced.
In addition, Hochul shared that the state will also support another AI supercomputer project at the State University of New York under $275 million funding and over $400 million in public and private investment.

Tesla Dojo Supercomputer Plans
Dojo was first introduced by Tesla in 2021 as a way to boost the advancement of the company's autonomous vehicle plans. It will also be used to train AI systems to develop Tesla's driver assistance software.
However, Musk clarified that while $500 million is a large investment, it could only purchase 10 thousand H100 systems from NVIDIA. He cleared that Tesla will be spending more than the initial amount on the hardware this year.
"The table stakes for being competitive in AI are at least several billion dollars per year at this point," the CEO explained. He also added that the company has plans to buy chips from AMD.
