Threads is reportedly currently working to add a trending topic feature on the platform similar to those in X (formerly Twitter) and it may roll out sooner than imagined.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that Meta is developing a new feature on "surfacing trends" to one of his followers' questions.
The idea of a trending topics feature for Threads has been floating for quite some time as the X competitor adds more iconic Twitter-like functions to its arsenal.
Images of the feature began circulating online last October after one Meta employee accidentally leaked a feature that is still under development.
Just last month, leaker Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot of the so-called "Today's topics" that will show the trending keywords that the user engaged the most.
Recent images show that the feature may roll out soon in the upcoming events, although no exact date or official announcement on the matter has been given yet.
How Will Thread's Trending Topics Work?
There is not much information regarding the feature aside from what the leakers have said while Threads is still developing it.
According to Palluzi, content specialists and moderators will be hired to specifically supervise the leading trends to prevent inappropriate content from surfacing.
The feature is reportedly will be integrated into a previous update released on Threads where users can tag topics to "categorize your posts and make it easier for others to find and join in on the conversation."
Threads Improve Its Services, Features Ahead of 1-Year Anniversary
After a less-than-bright performance soon after it was first released in July, Meta has been improving Threads to become a worthy competitor to Elon Musk's X.
The past months have seen the platform receive additional features reminiscent of Facebook and Instagram.
Mosseri has even stated before that they will start improving post recommendations on the platform after several users complained of seeing posts not connected to the topics they engaged with.
As of January 2024, Threads have been reported to have nearly 100 million monthly active users.
