Adobe confirmed that it has "no further plans to invest" in its planned web design project that is supposed to compete with Figma after its acquisition deal with the design portal fell.
A spokesperson of Adobe XD, the firm's vector design platform, told Bloomberg that the tool will not be replaced as the company promised earlier
Adobe put XD on "maintenance mode" following its announcement to acquire Figma with the tool no longer purchasable as a standalone app on the Creative Cloud store.
The platform has been hanging on life support even before the Figma acquisition with only a reported revenue of $17 million in 2022.
With the deal collapsed under regulatory pressure, there is little to no reason for Adobe to continue the expensive project.
It remains uncertain if Adobe intends to release the product back to Creative Cloud soon.
Adobe Doubles Down on AI Technology
With the Figma deal now in the scraps, Adobe has shifted its focus on generative AI and integrating technology into its products.
Since it was first released in March last year, the software company has been fitting Adobe Firefly across its suite of creative software.
Last year has introduced an AI-powered generative fill feature on Photoshop and the AI assets on Express.
A spokesperson from the company said it is now "focused on the opportunity" for imaging, photography, design, web, animation and 3D.

The recent changes in Adobe's priorities can be expected to also change how the 2025 version of its creative suites can be influenced.
The release of Photoshop Elements 2024 and Premiere Elements 2024 have introduced "new AI-powered features" that automate more tasks on the tools.
It can be expected that the projects the company will release in the immediate future will have similar concepts despite criticisms from some of its users.
