Two new codenames have appeared in the latest Android beta release, suggesting that a next-generation Pixel Tablet 2 is already in the works.
Previously, the Pixel Tablet was codenamed "Tangor" and later "Tangorpro" during its development stage.
Android 14 QPR3 Beta Teases Next Pixel Tablet
Google had just rolled out the first beta for the Android 14 QPR3 for its Pixel phones. 9to5Google dug deep into the code and saw two unfamiliar codenames.
According to the report, the list showed the current and future Pixel devices. Many familiar Pixel phone codenames were featured on the list, including two new codenames "Clementine" and "Kiyomi."
Based on the previous codenames, the team saw a pattern that the Pixel Tablet series came from fruits, specifically, the citrus family. Looking into horticulture, clementine is an example of a tangor while kiyomi is a tango hybrid from Japan.
Future Pixel Tablet 2
Regardless of the connection, there is not a clear indication in the Android 14 QPR3 on what kind of devices Clementine and Kiyomi will be. However, based on the pattern there is a chance that the Pixel Tablet 2 is now in development.
Last year, Google launched the first-generation Pixel Tablet which is designed for watching videos, playing games, and others. What makes it unique is its speaker dock that can be used to store and charge the table when not in use.
Meanwhile, Pixel Tablet users are hoping to see improvements from the first-generation device. Some hope for a different size while others wish for something different with the dock.
