AT&T Resolves Sudden Outage, Authorities Investigate

AT&T announced that the sudden outage was finally resolved after thousands of its subscribers reported network disruptions.

According to the reports, more than 73,000 customers were affected by the incident, mostly people from San Francisco, Houston, and Chicago.

AT&T Suffers Outage, Affects Emergency Services

The digital service tracking site DownDetector recorded thousands of self-reported outages. The AT&T network was reportedly down for almost two hours.

The service provider company was quick to address the system failure but failed to explain the reason behind the incident. "Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them," AT&T said in a statement.

During the incident, users were encouraged to use Wi-Fi calling until the service bounced back. Meanwhile, users of Verizon, T-Mobile, and UScellular also reported a service disruption but not as wide as AT&T.

The San Francisco Fire Department also shared on X that the incident affected the emergency services including 911. Emergency phone callers were advised to use the landline instead.

US Cyber Official Claims No Cyberattack on AT&T

In a response to CNN, a U.S. cyber official tracking the incident shared that there has been no indication that the outage was caused by malicious cyber activity. However, the investigation is still ongoing.

The Federal Communications Commission is also investigating the outage and assured the public that they are in contact with AT&T and public safety authorities.

As of writing, AT&T released a statement detailing that the massive service outage has been resolved and the service is now back to the majority of its customers. The company also extended its apology to the affected customers.

"Keeping our customers connected remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to ensure our customers do not experience this again in the future," the company stated.
