Google Gemini Product Lead Pulls Away from Social Media After Backlash

Google Gemini's product lead has pulled the plug from all their social media accounts following a series of backlash and harassment that were pointed their way over the AI's "inaccuracies."

Jack Krawczyk, Google's AI product lead, has taken down his social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn, days after Google took down the AI's image generation feature.

CNBC News first reported about Krawczyk's departure from social media.

Google Gemini is Generating Historical Figures as POC

The AI assistant, which was rebranded from Bard AI, recently came under fire for generating images of historical figures like the Founding Fathers of America as people of color.

Krawczyk has received the brunt of the criticisms and "anti-white" accusations after several users resurfaced some of Krawczyk's posts from years ago.

It did not help Elon Musk singled out Krawczyk in his post criticizing Gemini, a direct competitor of his company's AI chatbot.

Google has responded to the issues by taking down the AI's image generation feature, promising to re-launch it in the "next couple of weeks." Gemini is still usable as a chatbot and an AI assistant.

In an employee memo issued last Tuesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai called the issue "problematic" and promised to instate clear guidelines on the AI for "improved launch processes."

Krawczyk is still in the team working under Google's AI division, as of press time.

Google Gemini has a History of AI Flaws

The incorrect depiction of historical figures was not the first time Google's touted AI assistant reported having notable issues.

A month prior, Gemini was caught generating Superbowl LVIII statistics ahead of the game. Google quickly noted not to use AI as a source of information.

Before it was rebranded as Gemini, Bard AI notably generated the likeness of real-life people of this time despite Google's promises that it would not.
