There are already several apps that can assist with the creation of music, even eliminating the need to use physical instruments. But soon enough, anyone -- even those without extensive knowledge in the field -- can create music using text prompts via Adobe's AI tool.
Adobe's Project Music GenAI Control
With Adobe's developing tool, anyone can be a music creator. The only thing to do is provide the right text prompt to generate the kind of tune they want to start with. Once the initial tune has been generated, they can continue to edit the audio via text prompts as well.
To begin the process, users can input prompts like "powerful rock," "happy dance," or "sad jazz." After the AI tool has created the audio, the user can start making smaller changes as desired to make the generated music sound better.
Some changes users can make include the music's tempo, length, structure, repeating patterns and even a remix for a certain section. The AI music tool is capable of transforming generated audio based on a reference melody as well.
"With Project Music GenAI Control, generative AI becomes your co-creator. It helps people craft music for their projects, whether they're broadcasters, podcasters, or anyone else who needs audio that's just the right mood, tone, and length," Adobe Senior Research Scientist Nicholas Bryan stated.
In a blog post, the company clarified that its AI technology is developed with AI ethics principles in mind, such as accountability, responsibility and transparency, which comes as an assurance, especially with the turbulent relationship AI companies have with creators.
What This Means for Music Creators
It seems that AI replacing human workers is an ongoing theme based on the current pace and advancement of generative AI. Many are concerned that such technologies could end up eliminating jobs since art can now be generated artificially.
While some are excited about the new AI tool, given that it will provide vast possibilities for aspiring musicians who don't have all the resources they might need, others are already pointing out the negative outcomes that this tool could lead to.
In the comments section of the video demonstration of the tool on YouTube, some users expressed their opinions, stating that there are already "solutions for making music creation available to anyone even if they don't have music skills."
Another pointed out that the people in the video had "fake emotions" and that it was the best reflection of the "artificial, plastic, and unnatural results" produced by the AI tool. Looking at the big picture, it can really be something that can harm creators in the music industry.
There are a couple of users who pointed out how Adobe should focus on its other products first, saying that some of them have "bugs that have been plaguing users for years," or that they would rather invest in AI instead of fixing their software to make it work as intended.
