Beeper announced it is preparing for a major overhaul of its main messaging app for Android, including some features from its Apple iMessage-like Beeper Mini app.
Beeper CEO Eric Migicovsky said on X (formerly Twitter) that the software company is already at the "final stages" of its development on the Android app, promising "speed and performance."
Based on the early preview, the redesigned Beeper app will have an OLED black theme, chat bubbling and modified chat networks.
This is in addition to an improved reply thread feature, allowing users to reply to previous messages seamlessly on both private and group chats.
A new design for the search filter is also expected to help users find accounts and messages across chat logs all in one search.
The new features will be available on other Android messaging apps like WhatsApp, Signal, Google Messages and more.
Migicovsky did not provide a confirmed date when the new Beeper app will roll out since some features are still "work-in-progress."
Beeper Moves on from Apple iMessage Debacle
The showcase of the new Beeper app comes amid the company's abandonment of Beeper Mini after Apple cracked down on its app.
The tech giant previously shut down all iMessage imitation apps on Android in its ongoing effort to keep the messaging app exclusively to Apple.
Android users have flooded the app requests to allow them to send blue-colored messages to iPhone users.
Only Apple device owners can send blue messages to each other. Chats from other operating systems will display a green-colored message.
Beeper later said that it is "moving on" from Beeper Mini to focus on other projects amid threats of legal actions from Apple.
There is no indication that Beeper is reviving the feature on its redesigned app.
Apple Faces Antitrust Lawsuit Over iMessage Monopoly
For its strict grip over the message feature, Apple is currently facing a U.S. antitrust lawsuit for its crackdowns on iMessage-like apps and third-party extensions.
Google has also tried to crack down on Apple's hold on iMessage in the EU market in hopes of bringing the app to Android devices.
