Roku Disables TV Unless Users Agree on 'Dispute Resolution Terms'

Roku users have reportedly seen an unskippable prompt that asks users to agree on the changes to its Dispute Resolution Terms.

Users can either agree with the update or press "*" to read the updated terms.

Roku TV Updates Dispute Resolution Terms

Roku TV users were surprised to see a prompt forcing them to agree on the new terms of the company. Aside from agreeing and reading the terms, users do not have any choice.

Ignoring the prompt will leave the TV unusable for the time being unless the user finally agrees to the update. According to TechCrunch, an email was sent to the users to notify them that Roku updated the policy on how users can resolve disputes with the company.

"We encourage you to read the updated Dispute Resolution Terms. By continuing to use our products or services, you are agreeing to these updated terms," the company added.

Roku's New Terms Prevent Users From Suing

The company's changes emphasized a forced arbitration agreement. This means that the users are not allowed to sue or take part in lawsuits against Roku.

Several companies are also taking the same route of limiting their liability to their users to prevent any bad publicity. Most of the time, users fail to understand the terms unless the company has already done something bad to the point that the consequences are negligible.

Roku's updated terms highlight that it is required for anyone with legal complaints to talk to Roku lawyers first. After that, a meet-and-confer call will be done to "make a fair, fact-based offer of resolution."
