Discord is launching a new product called Quests which will allow players to try new games with their friends and win exciting rewards.
The new project will be done with video game companies paying Discord to offer rewards on their games.
Discord Opens Reward System Through Quests
In an interview, Discord CEO Jason Citron stated that Quest is part of the company's effort to boost the profit at the company this year. He also shared that the target is to have every game to offer quests on Discord.
The Quests will soon appear in Discord, allowing gamers to stream their game to friends and win rewards. This will also be an opportunity for developers and publishers to establish long-term partnerships with Discord that will offer an engaging experience to the players.
"Those users can choose to enroll in the Quest and accept their mission. And then some of those users start the Quest which is typically streaming the game to their friends," Discord SVP Peter Sellis shared.
The Quest will be approved once a developer has decided to offer an in-game reward. Successful players will get their reward via a code that they can redeem in the game.
Discord Improves User Experience via Nitro, Shop
Last year, Discord opened its Shop which has now become a marketplace for users to purchase avatar frames and profile effects. To make this possible, the messaging company has been collaborating with game developers.
The Shop will share the generated profit from the purchased items with the developers, hence, giving them a new revenue stream. Previously, the Shop was only available for Nitro users but it was eventually opened to all Discord users by late last year.
Five Quests were also launched last year as part of its experimentation process and is expected to launch anytime soon. For now, developers are encouraged to sign up if they are interested in offering Quests.
"The new part of the shop is the third-party intellectual property. And that will be coming shortly," Sellis added.
