Apple has reversed its previous decision to cancel the developer account of Epic Games, the gaming company confirmed.
In a blog post, Epic Games shared that the tech giant has promised to reinstate and comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Epic Games to Continue Developing Store, Fortnite
After the DMA was enforced in the European Union, Epic Games quickly exposed that their plan to develop the Store and Fortnite for iOS users was denied after Apple terminated their account.
Two days after the incident, Epic announced that Apple would now reinstate their developer account. This means that the company can now push through with its agenda to bring its services to the EU iOS users.
"This sends a strong signal to developers that the European Commission will act swiftly to enforce the Digital Markets Act and hold gatekeepers accountable," the company wrote.
Apple, on the other hand, has confirmed that the internal discussion between the companies has resulted in the reinstatement of the account. Epic was also proven to have followed the DMA policies of the company.
European Commission Prioritizes Apple, Epic Dispute
In an X post, commissioner Thierry Breton shared the success of the Commission for its first challenge. "I take note with satisfaction that following our contacts Apple decided to backtrack its decision on Epic exclusion," he stated.
Meanwhile, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney explained that the company made a "swift inquiry" by the Commission. He also expressed how big of a win this is for the EU and the developers.
The DMA officially went into effect on March 7. The move has finally allowed third-party app stores and alternative payment options on iOS. Apple has already released a complete guideline for developers and consumers.
