Donald Trump is Asking Elon Musk to Buy Truth Social Ahead of 2024 Elections: Sources

Donald Trump is reportedly asking X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk to acquire his social media platform Truth Social, sources familiar with the deal told the Washington Post.

According to the report, Trump, who is running for his second term in the presidency, proposed the idea to Musk last summer as conversations between the two become more common.

Musk, who has been noted to repost conservative ideologies on X, reinstated Trump's account last year after it was suspended by the old Twitter for violating its policies against inciting violence.

The report was published as Trump's Truth Social is heading for a merger with acquisition firm Digital World. The right-wing-led Truth Social is part of the Trump Media enterprise.

Representatives from the platform touted the deal as a way to further expand the reach of the social media site, which Trump primarily uses for his presidential campaign.

No Trump-Musk Partnership Yet

Despite the budding relationship between the tech mogul and the politician, Musk seems to be not looking to endorse Trump in the upcoming 2024 US Presidential Elections.

According to The New York Times, Musk denied to provide Trump's requested cash infusion to aid his re-election campaign.

It can be remembered that the tech billionaire has repeatedly portrayed himself as a centrist and has made clear that he will not officially support "either candidate for US President."

Political Disinformation Still Runs Rampant on X

Despite not officially advertising the impeached president, promotions for Trump, whether as an exaggeration or blatant lie, have been running rampant on X.

Digital watchdogs have scrutinized the platform multiple times for boosting hate speech and racism on the platform through its verified check marks.

One of the changes Musk brought to the platform when he acquired it was to make blue check marks as part of a premium subscription on X, touting the service as a way to help boost the visibility of posts on the site.

Musk himself has been flagged on several occasions for sharing misinformation often common in Trump's earlier speeches.
