Minecraft released a new subscription service called Marketplace Pass which will serve as an avenue for community-created content for only $3.99 per month.
Mojang also clarified that the new pass will not overlap with Realms Plus, since it is designed as a cheaper alternative service.
Minecraft Marketplace Pass
Mojang introduced the Marketplace Pass as a service that allows access to more than 150 pieces of exciting content. This includes worlds, mash-ups, skin packs, texture packs, and more.
Subscribers are entitled to download and try several themed worlds and mini-games that will be available upon purchase. Players can also customize the design of blocks, biomes, and even the mobs through texture packs.
In addition, Mojang also promised the content will be regularly refreshed, assuring subscribers that it will be worth their pennies to keep renewing every month. For instance, subscribers can claim limited-edition Character Creator items that will reset each month.
How Minecraft Marketplace Works
Users who decide to end their subscription can download any world templates from their cloud storage within 18 months after the subscription ends. However, items that will be leaving the pass must be purchased to continue using it.
Mojang also assured that packs will not be deleted from the local storage unless the player deletes them. The monthly character creator items that were redeemed will be kept by the player.
The Marketplace Pass is already included in the Realms Plus subscription. Players who wish to upgrade their subscription must unsubscribe first to the Marketplace Pass before purchasing it.
Realms Plus is available for $7.99 per month and allows playing with up to ten friends at a time.
