Spotify Rolls Out Jam Feature to Desktop Premium Users

Spotify is finally bringing its Jam feature to desktop users, a feature that was first introduced to the app's mobile version, allowing users to create real-time listening sessions.

Jam is now available on macOS and Windows for Premium users, a year after it was released on phones.

Spotify Jam on Desktop

In a blog post, Spotify announced that Premium users can now start or join a listening party with their friends and families. "Although you can listen on your own, Jam in the desktop app offers you the ability to share a synced listening experience in real-time with other people remotely or in person," the company shared.

To use Jam in the desktop app, users can right-click a song or playlist and select the "Start a Jam" option from the menu. Users can invite other people to listen with them by sharing links or scanning a QR code.

Despite releasing exclusively for Premium users, Jam can still be enjoyed by Free users by joining an in-person Jam using the mobile app. Meanwhile, Premium users can join and start a Jam remotely both on mobile and desktop apps.

Spotify Updates Jam's Queue

Spotify also announced an updated version of the Queue, which now opens in the right sidebar. This change will allow users to continue browsing in the main area while keeping track of the next Jam.

"When you are participating in a Jam, the Jam options will appear at the top of the Queue in the right sidebar," Spotify detailed. Users can also switch back to other views like Now Playing or Friend Activity feed at any time.

As of writing, the Jam experience is only available in the desktop app. Premium users who use Web Player in the web browser will not be able to enjoy the feature. There is also no update yet if Spotify will soon add web player support for Jam.
