Netflix's "Squid Game" became one of the most popular shows when it was released, so much so that a lot of content creators tried to recreate the challenges. MrBeast also participated in the hype, and the success of his YouTube series led to him producing a similar game show for Amazon Prime Video.
Beast Games' $5M Reward
Content creator Jimmy Donaldson, who you might know better as MrBeast, is moving up as he goes from creating game shows on YouTube to producing and hosting them for the Amazon streaming service. What's more, is that contestants will be extra motivated to win the game with its handsome reward.
This is not all that surprising anymore, especially since MrBeast is known for his huge giveaways, whether monetary or not. His form of content creation is what led his channel to be one of the most successful ones with over 240 million subscribers.
"Beast Games," which will feature 1,000 contestants, will have to fight hard for what is claimed as the "biggest single prize" in television history. As per Amazon's blog post, beating all the other contestants will yield a massive reward of $5 million.
The game show was announced on March 18th, and it will be a reality competition series just like "Squid Game," except of course, there will be no snuffing involved. In addition to the already massive wealth that MrBeast is earning on YouTube alone, this project could also bring in big bucks.
A report says that Jimmy Donaldson could get as high as $100 million for producing and hosting the show, which makes the $5 million prize that contestants will have to fight for seem like small potatoes in comparison.
Still, it's a huge amount, and you can't exactly get that kind of money in most nine-to-five jobs. Amazon will also benefit from the upcoming show, seeing as it will also appeal to the fanbase of the popular YouTuber.
Amazon MGM Studios Head Jennifer Salke said that "MrBeast has captured the attention and imagination of fans of all ages, from all walks of life, and all over the world," and that they are excited to work with him and his team to bring the game show to Amazon's global customers.
What to Expect
Viewers can expect that the game show would somewhat be similar to the games that MrBeast hosted on YouTube, especially since it will be a hands-on project for the content creator as the host and producer of "Beast Games."
According to Kotaku, Donaldson mentioned that Amazon gave him the creative control he needed to try and make it happen. "I hope to make the YouTube community proud." If anything, the show could even be better since it is financially backed by the retail giant.
Ultimately, MrBeast's goal is "to make the greatest show possible and prove YouTubers and creators can succeed on other platforms." Given that his YouTube series was a success, it might be easy to achieve the same thing with the streaming service.
