Sonos Reportedly Prepping for Roam 2, App Launch for June

Sonos is gearing up for the follow-up of its Roam Wireless AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth speaker, as per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The company is also reportedly preparing to introduce a new app that will serve specifically its portable speakers in June.

Sonos to Launch Roam 2 This June

According to Gurman, the next-generation Roam will feature a similar touch-sensitive control panel from other Sonos speakers. The matching interface will be the same as the Era 100 and Era 300 speakers for the music and volume control.

The company's new app is designed to be paired with the new devices starting with the Roam 2 and an upcoming set of premium headphones. The $450 headphones launch, which had been rumored to be a competitive premium audio device, has been slightly delayed until June.

In addition, Sonos will also provide a hardware fix for Bluetooth glitches that caused a headache for many users in the original model. While the app will only be available for the headphones and Roam 2, the company will update the app later to support Move 1 and 2 products and the first-generation Roam.

Sonos to Compete With Premium Products

Last year, Gurman laid out the company's plan for 2024, including the introduction of the new headphones. The over-ear-style headphones are under the codename "Duke."

The company is planning to sell it within the $400 and $500 range, making it a close price rival of Apple's AirPods Max which retails at $549. Other high-end audio devices from Sony and Bose also sell within the same price point.

On the other hand, Sonos has been rumored to release a set-top box under the project code "Pinewood." Although not much has been reported from its development, the device is expected to have similarities with existing top boxes in the market.
