Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Unveils Secret to Impressive Side Quests

Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pawel Sasko shared the process of making the game's side quests so strong, making it a stand-out feature among gamers.

Sasko revealed some of the studio's processes in maintaining the same high-quality side quests for the game, citing that consistency is a must for game development.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Pools Tons of Ideas for Side Quests

In a recent interview with PC Gamer at GDC, the lead quest designer explained that the solution was simple - have a ton of ideas and pick the ones that are the best. Sasko then shares that the acceptance ratio for good designers is between five to 10%.

"If someone has 10%, this is probably one of the best people we have in the team," he added. The quest designers for Cyberpunk 2077 are required to accomplish up to 20 pitches a day. The best of the best will be chosen to be developed into side quests in the game.

According to Sasko, all the ideas from the designers are processed within the team which helps in eliminating bad ideas and only picking the ones that stand out.

During the ideation process, the designers will be given a list of genres and themes to work with. A list of topics will also be given to guide the pitches that they will write.

"Basically, an excellent pitch is like four sentences of like: That's the pitch," Sasko said. The designer also expressed that even the best people could have a ton of bad ideas from time to time and they are trained to just pick the best 5%.

He also shared that some ideas for side quests can be executed without breaking the budget. Sasko often searches online to see what players think are the best quests. Most of the time the quests had one of the smallest budgets.
