The looming TikTok ban seems to be only favorable to at least 28% of Americans, according to a new survey from market research firm Savanta via Gizmodo.
From 2,000 Americans aged 18 and older surveyed, less than a quarter expressed support to the bill proposing to ban the app in the US as opposed to more than half opposing the legislation.
At least 60% expressed intentions to keep using the apps even if the ban ever pushed through, while some would just switch to other social platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
TikTok Ban Opposed by Younger Voters
The data from the survey coincides with the increasing support on the app, especially from younger generations, amid concerns of its effects in the upcoming US elections. At least 46% said so.
TikTok currently host the most political discussions among young voters in comparison to other social media apps in the US.
The survey was conducted from March 19 to 25, a week after the US House of Representatives passed the proposed Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act to ban all ByteDance-owned app, including TikTok, in the country.
Conflicting Survey Results
Following the passing of the bill in the House, various surveys have been released to show the people's perception on the looming ban with varying results.
A separate survey from CNBC claimed that nearly half of the 1,001 polled Americans agree with the passing of the bill.
At least 20% supported a full ban on the app while another 27% expressed support to the sale of the platform to a US-based company. Only three out of 10 people surveyed opposed the ban.
Another survey conducted from March 16 to 19, also show that 49% approve the proposed sale of the app with more than half having unfavorable opinion on the current state of the app.
It is worth noting that neither survey disclosed whether the people surveyed regularly use TikTok.
