Following several leaks and FCC clues, Samsung has officially unveiled its new Galaxy Tab 4 lineup of tablets, consisting of three models.
As expected, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 lineup comes with three different sizes: 7.0, 8.0, and 10.1 inches. Samsung has yet to offer pricing details for the new slates, but it did provide nearly complete spec details for each model.
"[The] Next-generation Galaxy tablet series delivers exceptional multimedia experience for the whole family in a sleek, lightweight design," touts Samsung in its press release.
"Perfect for all ages, Samsung's next-generation Galaxy Tab4 line offers an exceptional multimedia experience in a more premium and portable design, making it ideal for viewing or sharing content with friends and family."
Specs
All three Galaxy Tab 4 models share quite similar specifications, including the same display with a resolution of just 1280 x 800 pixels. All three models pack quad-core processors clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1.5GHz of RAM, and all have 3-megapixel rear cameras and 1.3-megapixel front shooters. The tablets also share Android 4.4 KitKat as their operating system. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, and GPS.
While the tablets share many specifications, there are also a few differences that set the apart. The 8.0- and 10.1-inch models, for instance, will come with 16GB of internal storage capacity and a microSD card slot for additional memory, while the 7-inch model will come in 8GB or 16GB versions, also expandable via microSD.
Another notable difference between the three models, meanwhile, lies in the battery department. The 10.1-inch version comes with a large 6,800 mAh battery and the 8.0-inch model will sport a 4,450 mAh unit, but Samsung made no mention of the battery capacity of the 7.0-inch model.
None of these models is particularly high-end and innovative, but Samsung likely wants to keep its Galaxy Tab Pro and Note Pro tablets as the go-to options for power users.
Availability
According to Samsung, its new Galaxy Tab 4 lineup will become available globally during the second quarter of this year. All three models will come in black or white color options and sport a "textured, premium look and feel back cover." The company will likely offer more details regarding pricing and availability as the slates get closer to launch, so stay tuned for more information as soon as it becomes available.
