Game publisher Landfall surprised fans on April Fools' Day by releasing Content Warning for free, amassing more than six million Steam downloads within 24 hours.
The game had zero announcements prior to the event but the launch managed to be successful by peaking at over 200,000 concurrent players at a time.
Content Warning Surpasses Six Million Claims in 24 Hours
Content Warning was developed by a team of five developers. The game made its Steam debut on April Fools' Day without any promotions to hype it. However, active Steam users were able to spot the free game on the site, resulting in its huge launch.
"The last 24 [hours] have been a wild ride, to say the least, never did we imagine that we would get over 200K concurrent and over 6.2 MILLION owners of the game," the team wrote.
After its first day of release, the game is now available for $7.99 while those who managed to successfully claim the game can keep the copy for free forever.
Content Warning Promises to Resolve Early Issues
The debut was positively welcomed by the gaming community. However, the company listed some of the major concerns during its launch day.
According to the team, they are now trying to resolve issues with voices, connection and hosting issues, issues with camera footage extracting, and issues with camera footage that are not visible.
Landfall has been known for making special announcements every April Fools' Day. Content Warning is a co-op horror game that allows players to film spooky stuff with friends while trying to go viral
