‘Google Vids’ is a New AI-Assisted Google Workspace App You Create Videos With

Google Workspace comes with several productivity apps that allow you to create spreadsheets, write draft documents, store files, write emails, produce slides, save dates, and more. The search engine giant does not intend to stop there as it introduces a new "video editor."

Google Vids

Although it sounds like you can upload raw content and use it to create movies or short videos, it doesn't actually work like that. The new app is basically a way to make fancier Slides presentations, one where you won't even have to be present to present.

Based on the demo, Vids can help you present a certain topic or create a video-form slide where you can add elements like voice-overs and videos to make it easier to understand, or at least make the presentation more interesting than watching a few slides go by.

The main theme here is barely doing any work, especially since you can use Google Gemini to generate the video. You can add an existing Slides file to the prompt field and add instructions such as asking the AI to help you create a marketing plan or a sales training video.

You can choose pre-existing styles to add more color or a theme to your video presentations, and the templates will come with panels where you can add texts, videos, and other forms of media. Google already has stock videos and images you can use.

Of course, you can add your own video. You can film yourself for an introduction for yourself or the topic at hand, and then add that to one of the panels provided by the templates alongside texts and added media. Next is for those who want to avoid discussing the topic themselves.

Google Vids allows you to add a script and select a voice that would dictate your notes and the AI-generated voice can do all the talking. You can opt for voices that are friendly or calm, even what kind of accent it will be like British or US.

All in all, you can create a video presentation of what you need to discuss with a team before a meeting. When the time comes for presenting, you can just sit back and let the video play. You won't even have to do much work since you can ask the AI to assist you with a lot of the tasks.

For now, the company is simply unveiling the new productivity app, which means that you cannot use it just yet. Vids will be released with Workspace Labs, so you might be able to test it as early as June, depending on your location and when Google rolls it out there.

Google Workspace and AI

The tech giant is not only expanding its Workspace productivity apps but also the utilization of its AI. Even the existing ones like Mail and Docs already come with AI features that can help you draft messages and documents.

For instance, you can provide bullet points for Gemini and ask it to summarize the points into an email for work. You can prompt the AI to draft a document for a business announcement where you can fill in the important details like names, dates, and products.
