The Showtime standalone streaming service will officially shut down on April 30 based on the notification that has been sent to its subscribers.
Once the Showtime app closes, subscribers billed by Apple, Roku, and Amazon will be automatically redirected to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.
Paramount Shuts Down Standalone Showtime App for Packaged Streaming Plans
Last year, Paramount Global introduced a new streaming tier called Paramount+ With Showtime ad-free. The announcement also came with a significant price hike of $2 from $9.999 to $11.99.
The Showtime streaming app was originally planned to close by the end of 2023 but it was postponed until April 30. The current streaming subscribers of the service will still have access to all the shows until its last day.
"Beginning May 1, 2024, the only way to stream SHOWTIME programming is with a subscription to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan on Paramount+," the company stated in the customer notice.
Paramount Promotes Other Streaming Plans
After Showtime's shutdown, Paramount+ will have two streaming plans available to its customers. These are the Paramount+ Essential which costs $5.99 per month or $ 59.99 per year and the Paramount+ with Showtime which costs $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year.
On a support page, Paramount explained that some subscriptions are automatically transferred to Paramount+ due to their eligibility. Customers will be charged for the first month under their new subscription based on the same Showtime account details.
This year sparked the first rebranding strategy of Paramount Global from its linear Showtime cable network. Subscribers of the new plan will have access to programming via authenticated pay-TV partners along with other existing Showtime shows.
