Nickelodeon's interactive learning platform, Noggin, has reached its end after 10 years of service, Variety confirmed.
According to the report, Paramount Global held a company-wide layoff and hit the entire subscription service team.
Nickelodeon's Kid-Learning Platform
From 1999 to 2009, Noggin operated as a cable TV channel from Nickelodeon, targeting kids ages two to seven. In 2015, Noggin transitioned to a subscription platform which costs $7.99 per month or $71 per year.
Noggin's library is known for its vast educational material with over 1,000 games, activities, ebooks, and more. In addition, the platform also offers over 2,000 ad-free episodes of popular kid shows.
Household series such as "Peppa Pig," "PAW Patrol," Backyardigans," "Blue's Clues," "Blaze and the Monster Machines," "Bubble Guppies," "Dora the Explorer," "Little Bear," and "Wonder Pets," are some of the offerings in the service.
Noggin to Start Closing Process in 2024
In 2019, Noggin recorded 2.5 million paying subscribers. Meanwhile, last year was a big upgrade to the service after it launched Special Delivery, which delivered personalized experiences to children.
However, Paramount Global's company-wide layoff affected 800 employees, including the entire Noggin team. As a result, its services will start to cease in 2024.
As of writing, there is no exact date as to when the service will shut down. However, Noggin announced that the platform will no longer accept new subscribers while the current subscribers will be given a transition period.
Nickelodeon used to promote Noggin as a specialized educational approach for kids. The service was also designed "to build your child's math, literacy, and wellness skills while developing their curiosity and social and emotional learning."
Paramount+ is reportedly aiming to reinforce some of its content and make the service suitable for the entire household, including children.
