Apple TV+ announced that its Monsterverse series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" has been renewed for a second season, along with a multiple spinoff series based on the franchise.
Currently, the plot details for the spinoffs are still under wraps, as well as the narrative for the second season of the series.
'Monarch: Legacy of Monsters' Impresses Fans With Season 1
In a press release, Apple explained that the "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" became an impressive show. The first season follows the story of two siblings who are about to uncover their relationship with the Monarch, a secret organization.
"We couldn't be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary's Monsterverse," said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+.
Although the plot for the second season remains a mystery, the show will be executive-produced by Chris Black and Matt Fraction. They will also be joined by Joby Harold, Tory Tunnel, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, and Jen Roskind. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will represent the owners of the Godzilla character, Toho Co.
Legendary Entertainment Enters Deal for Monsterverse Expansion
The Monsterverse started in 2024 with "Godzilla" and was followed by "Kong: Skull Island," "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," and "Godzilla vs. Kong." The most recent movie "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has recorded $380 million in box office two weeks after its release.
Currently, the Monsterverse was able to expand beyond the movies including the series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters", video games, graphic novels, toys, and live experiences. In the following years, fans of the franchise can expect more content as multiple spinoff series are on their way.
The first season of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is still available on Apple TV+ globally. Details on the second season are expected to drop once there is development on the production.
