Cybertruck Deliveries Face Delays Over Rumored Accelerator Pedal Malfunction

After a long delay in the first deliveries, the Tesla trucks are once again halting the process as the vehicle shows signs of accelerator pedal issues. It's unknown how long the halt will last, but rumors there are unofficial announcements regarding it.

Cybertruck Delays

In the span of a few days, a couple of users in the Cybertruck Owners Club forum all said that they received texts and calls informing them of the rescheduled deliveries, although none were told why the delay was happening in the first place.

Some users say that the delay was caused by recalls brought on by an issue with the accelerator pedal, as per their dealer. Another said that the company sent them a text stating the same reason, according to The Verge.

Furthermore, others stated that they received texts about issues with the preparation of their vehicle, so it's unclear which one it really is. The only common thread is that the deliveries will see a temporary halt in operations.

X user @WholeMarsBlog, who is a fan account for the Tesla CEO, said that the delivery delays will last for seven days, although the EV maker did not confirm nor deny the announcement. If the accelerator pedal really is the problem, then the delay wouldn't be that big of an issue.

It goes without saying that a faulty pedal is extremely dangerous, given that the vehicle will move forward on its own or will be stuck at a certain speed. A Cybertruck owner posted proof of the vehicle's accelerator pedal getting stuck.

He said that the pedal was held down 100%, full throttle and that only pressing the brake stopped the truck from going further. Once he let go of the break, the vehicle would start to move again. It can be dangerous for both the driver and the other vehicles on the road.

The Cybertruck is at about 7,000 pounds and can go from zero to 60 in just three seconds. Anyone in the way could sustain life-threatening injuries, and other objects and obstacles would see extensive damage from being hit.

Not the First Case

Back in 2020, Tesla also faced accusations about its vehicles accelerating on its own. A petition was filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) with 127 claimed incidents, with some saying the EVs would move forward even when it's in the garage.

Ultimately, the NHTSA ruled that Tesla was not at fault, nor its vehicles, and that the incidents were caused by the driver's mistake, particularly pedal misapplication. That's when the driver steps on the accelerator instead of the brake, as mentioned in Electrek.

After the investigation, Tesla issued a statement claiming that its vehicles had no defects causing unintended acceleration. It even expressed that the petition was started by a TSLA short seller. The same investigation was opened in China.

The NHTSA said in the official report that after reviewing the available data, the Office of Defects "has not identified evidence that would support opening a defect investigation into SUA in the subject vehicles."
