More information comes to bolster claims that Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 will launch in September, as a new report claims the smartphone will go into production in July.
The iPhone 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year and the rumor mill is churning at full speed in anticipation of the next big thing. The launch of a new iPhone iteration has always been a hot topic in the tech world, but this time it's even more exciting as Apple is widely expected to finally make the jump towards significantly larer displays.
The general expectation is that Apple will launch not one, but two iPhone 6 models this year, one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with a phablet-worthy 5.5- or 5.7-inch screen. According to new information, the 4.7-inch model will go into production in July and hit the market sometime in September. Production for the larger model, meanwhile, will reportedly start in September. This indicates that the two models may not debut or go on sale at the same time.
The news comes from the Japanese media, which cites one of Taiwan's biggest newspapers, as GforGames reports.
As GforGames points out, there are two theories in regards to the larger model entering production later. One possibility could be that Apple isn't expecting a very high demand for its upcoming phablet so it will produce fewer units, in which case it would afford to start mass production later than for the 4.7-inch model. The other possibility is that the 4.7-inch model will launch first, while the larger version will go on sale later in the year.
In addition to the larger displays, the next-generation iPhone is also expected to boast Apple's next OS version, iOS 8, which will reportedly sport a range of features compatible with the company's upcoming iWatch. Moreover, Apple will reportedly make the display much more resistant to scratches compared to the screens of current iPhones.
In terms of horsepower, Apple is expected to pack the next-generation iPhone with its new 64-bit mobile processor, the Apple A8, which will reportedly have a clock speed of 2.6GHz. The iPhone 6 should also have more RAM than the current iPhone 5S flagship.
Keep in mind, however, that it's all in the rumor state for now, and all of the above-mentioned information is based solely on leaks and speculation. As always in this case, it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt until some solid evidence becomes available.
