Cheap 3D printer hits $50,000 Kickstarter goal in 11 minutes, raises $2,273,825 with 25 days to go

M3D's very promising 3D printer has hit its Kickstarter goal in just 11 minutes after the project went live and has significantly surpassed it, as pledges continue to flow.

Dubbed the "first truly consumer 3D printer," the machine raised the $50,000 (£30,000) required goal after just 11 minutes on Kickstarter. The device went on to reach as much as $2,273,825 at the time of writing, with a total of 8,025 backers eager to invest into the project and take advantage of the sub-$300 3D printer.

Early adopters had the chance to pick up the gadget for just $199 and then $249, as the price went up when the spots were filled, but now the next level is at $299 or more. Both the $199 and the $249 tiers are completely sold out already. At the time of writing, the $299 level has 846 spots left of 2,500.

"It's the most affordable 3D printer that can be used right out of the box. Perfect for beginners and experts alike, just plug in the printer, download or create models, hit print, and watch your custom creations form right before your eyes," reads the project description on KickStarter.

"Bring your ideas to life, turn them into businesses, educate, learn, personalize products, make toys, make jewelry, start a curriculum, run a modern workshop, and unleash your creativity. The power of creation is yours!"

"We've built The Micro with reliability, consistency, and accessibility in mind. Micro Motion Technology is a sensor and feedback system built into the print head, providing auto-leveling and auto-calibration. This means that every time you run the printer it works, even after thousands of hours of use! The Micro is not only a useful tool, it makes 3D printing an enjoyable experience for the every-day person."

The device is compatible with all the latest desktop and laptop operating systems and works straight out of the box, without any hassle. Compared to other 3D printers, M3D's machine comes at a significantly lower price point, which is likely why the project has seen such tremendous success.

If you'd like to back up this project and get a Micro 3D printer for yourself, the lowest price is currently $299 but spots are filling up very quickly. Although it reached its goal in just 11 minutes, the project still has 25 more days to go on Kickstarter. Watch the video below for more details on the device.
