Metaphor: ReFantazio, the newest game from Persona series developer Atlus, seems to feature a similar gameplay style to the fan-favorite Persona 5 installment.
The major reveal came during Atlus' livestream on Monday with Studio Zero Director Katsura Hashino introducing the first-ever trailer for the newest title for the Atlus collection.
Hashino is the creative director for many well-known Atlus games like Shin Megami Tensei III, as well as Persona 3 and onwards.
The first trailer of the game has already garnered 13,000 views on Xbox's official YouTube channel.
Metaphor: ReFantazio to Feature Old Atlus Gameplays
True to the promise as the "culmination of everything that makes Atlus what it is" for the past 35 years, Metaphor: ReFantazio features both the stylistic anime-esque battle menu popularized in newer Persona games while improving the enemy design from the Shin Megami Tensei demons.
The game even took some inspiration from Etrian Mystery Dungeon, another Atlus title from 2015, with its environment during dungeon-crawling as evidenced by the few sneak-peeks given in the trailer.
ReFantazio will also have the same tried-and-tested exploration and job system (Archetypes) in this game, allowing players to fully enjoy the richness of the United Kingdom of Euchronia.
What is the Story for Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Fans of the Atlus games' story will not also be disappointed in ReFantazio as it is promised to offer both new and old players to the studio with "engaging characters and legendary stories."
According to Sega's webpage for the game, the story takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, "where the assassination of the king brings chaos and unrest to the land."
There, players will embark on the journey to save the kingdom from a curse along with their trusty "Gauntlet Runner" and fairy partner, Galica, as they encounter both new friends and foes.
To achieve their goals, players will need to make their way to the top in the tournament for the throne as schemes and relationships closely dictate the fate of the protagonist.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is set to release this coming Oct. 11, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
