Garry's Mod is taking down all Nintendo-related content from its in-game item shop, reasoning that "they [Nintendo] don't want you playing with that stuff in Garry's Mod."
The announcement was made on the game's Steam community board, urging players to help go through the 20 years-worth of content for other potential Nintendo-related items.
The community update did not provide much information regarding the discussion made between Valve and Nintendo other than that the takedowns came directly from the Japanese company.
Garry's Mod was among Valve's, owner of Steam, flagship games during its early years before it became the premium gaming digital store it is today.
Nintendo Cracks Down on 'Copyright Violators'
Nintendo cracking down on game developers and artists for using characters from its massive list of owned franchises without permission is nothing new.
The gaming giant even became a part of an inside joke in the past for having its lawyers deploy an army of cease-and-desist letters for any third-party group trying to profit from its IPs.
However, recent events have seen an increase in the company's efforts against the unauthorized use of its content, primarily content related to the Pokémon or Mario Bros. franchise.
Just last month, Nintendo shut down one of the biggest Switch, 3DS emulator platforms of today, raking in a $2.4 million settlement payment from its copyright lawsuit.
Before that, the company has been reported for taking down Palworld mods using assets and designs from Pokémon.
It is uncertain if the increased takedowns are related to the order on Garry's Mod.
What Happens to Garry's Mod Now?
Players can still play Garry's Mod on Steam, albeit with a few changes in the available items.
Of course, players can still import the removed Nintentod-related content to the game via mods in their private servers.
It is just that the platform will no longer offer "official" in-game items from Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, or Mario.
