With all the new AI tools being released for mainstream social media sites, of course, X wouldn't dare fall behind. With Grok AI, what was formerly known as Twitter can now summarize stories that are currently trending on the site.
Grok AI's Stories on X
Elon Musk's AI chatbot is not just capable of providing quirky answers to your questions anymore. This time, you can use it to skip the searching and reading just to catch up with current events from the app's For You tab in the Explore section.
The new feature was announced by the company's Engineering team. Unfortunately, it's only available to Premium subscribers on the app, and it has only been rolled out for iOS and the web. It's likely to be rolled out for Android soon.
The For You tab shows news and stories that people in your network are currently talking about as well as other suggested topics. This, however, can get overwhelming if you just want a quick recap about the latest news.
To view the summarization by Grok AI, just head to your For You page and tap into a particular story you're interested in among the options. The summary of the story will then appear at the top of the page serving as an overview, as reported by Tech Crunch.
It goes without saying that AI chatbots aren't the most reliable when it comes to accurate and reliable news, and Grok acknowledges that. After the summary, it says that "Grok can make mistakes, verify its outputs."
With Stories, all the top news is already summarized waiting for users to read them. It's certainly a helpful addition for those who don't have the time to doom scroll through the app, but it's still not the best option when one is looking for accurate information.
Grok AI
Firstly, what exactly is Grok AI? Like all the other leading AI tools, it is a chatbot developed by xAI, a startup that Elon Musk created. Released in 2023, it is one of the exclusive features that come with the paid membership for X Premium.
The large language model, unlike others, has direct access to X and can even make posts on the app. That access also allows the AI chatbot to have "real-time knowledge of the world," considering that X is one of the go-to platforms for news and gossip.
Users can even choose modes for the chatbot depending on their mood. The two options are Regular Mode and Fun Mode. Regular, as indicated, will let the chatbot operate in formal dialogue, while Fun Mode gives it a humorous edge.
According to Built In, Grok's personality and sense of humor are modeled after one of the X owner's favorite books, which is "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," by Douglas Adams. "It's a book on philosophy, disguised as a book on humor," said Musk.
Like most chatbots, it can generate code, draft emails, and assist with certain topics. Its responses are based on the training data it's fed with. The only difference is that Grok is more lax about its limitations when it comes to topics you can dive into, even if they are potentially unethical.
