Threads Now Allows Users to Control Who Quotes Their Posts

Threads will now allow users to limit who gets to quote their posts in a move to better protect people against online harassment and bullying.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced on Friday that users can now limit quotes of their posts to their followers, people they mentioned in the post, or "disable quote posts entirely."

According to Mosseri, the new feature will help provide "a more positive place and give people more control over their experience."

As of writing, the quote limits are only available on the Threads app with the feature coming to the web version soon.

The feature is similar to the comments control on X (formerly Twitter) where users can limit who can reply to their posts to certain followers or people mentioned in the post.

The quote limits are the third consecutive safety feature Instagram rolled out on Threads in just a little over a month following the Hidden Words feature and allowing users to mute notifications.

Meta Cracks Down on Sexual Harassments, Child Exploitation on Platforms

The latest feature update on Threads follows earlier commitments from its parent company Meta to improve safety protocols against online sexual harassment and child exploitation on its social platforms.

It can be remembered that the tech giant was recently criticized during a Senate hearing for the lack of immediate actions and solid policies protecting its underage users from online predators, bullies, and harassers.

Meta has since announced to "improve online child safety" on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads

The company has also been reported to be working with other industry giants like OpenAI and Google to prevent the abuse of their AI models to generate explicit images of minors online.

Threads Slowly Takes Over X

Threads has been slowly rolling out safety features on its platform, bringing many tested policies from Facebook and Instagram, as the Twitter-like social media racks up users.

As of April, Threads has recorded over 150 million monthly users, over 20 million higher than its last report in the third quarter of 2023.

On the other hand, X has been slowly losing users since billionaire Elon Musk took over in 2022, according to independent research groups and news outlets.

Musk, citing insider audits, maintained that the platform's user base is growing with 550 million still using the app.
