Presidential hopeful Donald Trump's team is reportedly considering bringing his campaign to TikTok despite the looming ban on the app ahead of the 2024 US Elections.
Trump plans to secure votes from the over 170 million Americans using the platform, making him one of the first Republicans to use TikTok for their election campaign, The Washington Post reported.
Several advisers noted that aside from a few videos here and there, Trump would still focus most of his online campaign efforts on his own platform, Truth Social.
Trump Switches Opinion on TikTok Ban Ahead of 2024 Elections
Trump, who also pushed the ban on the app during his term, has earlier pivoted in supporting the platform after his biggest rival US President Joe Biden declared support for the ban.
According to the ousted president, the current administration's sale-or-ban effort is only "going to make Facebook bigger," an outcome Trump sees to be "very bad for our country."
It can be remembered that Facebook was among the first social platforms that banned Trump over his involvement to overturn the election results during the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill Riot in 2021.
TikTok Becomes the Political Hotbed for 2024 Elections
Similar to the events of the 2016 Elections and Facebook, TikTok is heading to become the main platform for both political parties as voting polls inch closer to opening.
Biden and his running partner, Vice President Kamala Harris, have launched their reelection campaign on the platform to capture younger generations.
While the goal to fish young voters may have been the initial purpose of the account, the account's content has shifted to "dunking" Republicans on the platform and promoting the administration's industrial policies.
Biden remains widely unpopular among the largest demographic of TikTok users, the Gen Zs, for his policies on the US-Mexico border, Israel, the economy's inflation, and the ban on TikTok.
Trump is in a similar position for his support to the controversial "Project 2025," which many experts and advocates as "dehumanizing."
