Square Enix announced that their Final Fantasy XIV servers have suffered from a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack which prevented gamers from logging into their accounts.
The technical issues were traced to have started around six the morning PDT and affected Final Fantasy XIV servers across the globe.
Final Fantasy XIV Suffers DDoS Attack
In a brief post, the studio reported that players have been experiencing various issues on the Japanese, North American, European, and Oceania data centers. Players were disconnected, having difficulty logging in, and struggled to access and receive data from the data centers.
"We are investigating the attack and taking countermeasures. Additional information will be provided as the situation develops," the company wrote.
As of writing, Square Enix has yet to provide an update on the situation. The developers are still investigating the cause of the attack.
Final Fantasy XIV Receives Negative Feedback on Dawntrail Benchmark Announcement
Earlier this month, Square Enix revealed an update for the Dawntrail benchmark which was quickly met with negative comments from fans. Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of the game, shared that they have identified room for improvement.
"After careful examination of the feedback from all regions, we are now working on improvements, adjustments, and bug fixes. We are making these refinements not only in preparation for Dawntrail's release but also to apply as many of the updates as possible to the benchmark," Yoshida explained.
The updated Benchmark Tool will be released on May 23 or so. New jobs and patch updates are scheduled to be revealed on May 16.
Final Fantasy XIV will be available across platforms on early access on June 28 for players who pre-ordered the game.
