Capcom has reportedly started the development for the remake of Resident Evil 1 with a target launch of 2026.
The gaming company has been working on modernizing the Resident Evil franchise and had a successful release for Resident Evil 4.
Capcom Could Bring Resident Evil 1 on Modern Consoles
Resident Evil 1 was developed and released by Capcom in 1996 for PlayStation. The game also made it to other platforms. After six years, the tile was remade for the Nintendo GameCube.
Today, Resident Evil 1 remains popular as the entire franchise is still going strong. However, fans are hoping that the original game will have a modern remake that will perfectly align with modern consoles.
DanielRPK, a popular insider, shared on his Patreon that Capcom is planning to remake the original Resident Evil. Another report also showed that if Capcom pushes a 2026 release, it will coincide with the franchise's 30th anniversary.
Capcom Actively Works on Resident Evil Franchise
Resident Evil 4 was the latest remade title in the entire franchise. The title was first released in 2005 for Nintendo GameCube. The remake was positively met by gamers and critics as it was nominated for various prestigious awards.
The Resident Evil 4 remake had sold around seven million units by March 2024, making it the fastest-selling IP in the series. Previously, there have been reports suggesting that a remake of Resident Evil 5 is already in the works.
However, with the news of Resident Evil 1 coming back, Capcom might have to shelve the latter title for a little while. In addition, other reports shared that the company is also working on Resident Evil 9 at the moment with a target launch of early 2025.
