iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users who were affected by audio issues are advised to claim their lawsuit settlement of at least $50 but no more than $349 until June 3.
Users who are entitled to the settlement are those who experienced audio issues and those who paid for a repair in Apple stores.
Apple Settles $35 Million Lawsuit Through Compensation
Apple was sued multiple times in the U.S. due to the Loop Disease that was found on several iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. The microphone issue started after users updated their devices to iOS 11.3.
In 2023, the tech giant finally settled the class-action lawsuit against them. Eligible users can receive up to $349 from Apple and can claim their settlement until June 3.
The settlement is limited to people who owned the affected models between September 16, 2023 and January 3, 2023. Users are also required to bring a documented complaint citing Apple's speaker issue or proof that they had their device repaired or replaced in-store.
Apple Denies Allegations Despite Settlement
Although Apple has decided to settle the lawsuit by compensating affected users, the tech giant refused to acknowledge all the allegations thrown at the devices. Several iPhone 7 users experienced graying out of the speaker button during calls, were unable to hear users on calls, and had no playback for videos.
The lawsuit claimed that the audio issues were part of a defective chip that was installed on the models. Apple did not admit any wrongdoing.
The company has started to notify customers who are eligible for the compensation. Users who reported to Apple about the audio issues but did not pay for the repair will receive an equal payment of up to $125.
The final approval hearing will be held on July 18. Once done, the settlement will start its distribution.
