OpenAI is bringing Reddit content to ChatGPT with the AI startup's latest platform deal with the online forum board.
In a blog post on Thursday, OpenAI said it will bring the platform's content across ChatGPT and other products to allow its AI models to understand and showcase recent topics.
In turn, Reddit will be able to use OpenAI's technology to debut "AI-powered features to Redditors and mods."
OpenAI has earlier secured similar deals with other content platforms and news outlets including Axel Springer, the parent company of Business Insider and Politico.
The addition of Reddit is expected to complement OpenAI's earlier-announced plans to launch an AI-powered search engine to compete with Google Search.
Search Engines Race to Secure Deals with Reddit
OpenAI is not the only one reportedly pursuing Reddit as tech companies and AI firms race to build the next big search engine.
Google, who was also reported earlier as bringing more of Reddit's content to the top of its search results, secured a $60 million per year deal with the platform to use its content as training data for its new AI products.
The deals follow after Reddit CEO Steve Huffman demanded compensation from AI companies for helping them with their AIs through the platform's content and "authentic conversation."
Reddit, along with news outlets, are often the common targets of AI firms' web crawlers to collect content and data for their AI products.

OpenAI Deal Indication of Reddit's Willingness to Diversify the Platform
Since becoming a public company, Reddit has been securing deals to diversify and expand the revenues of its platform rather than relying entirely on its unmanageable user base.
It can be remembered that Reddit included its board moderators as part of its business risk following a platform-wide revolt last year after Reddit phased out support for third-party APIs on the site.
The ensuing controversy has led to many forum boards being closed for several weeks as moderators and administrators protested to reinstate the free APIs on the platform.
It is expected that Reddit will close several more deals, possibly with other AI firms, as it competes with more popular social media sites.
