Apple's highly-expected iPhone 6 may launch with electronic image stabilization (EIS) instead of optical image stabilization (OIS) for its high-end camera.
The iPhone 6 is expected to be among the most popular smartphones of 2014 and as always ahead of big launches, the rumor mill is busy churning at full speed in anticipation. Apple products have always been in the center of attention and this year things are even more intensified, as the iPhone 6 is widely expected to break pattern and fianlly boast a large display.
The latest details now indicate that Apple may use EIS instead of OIS in its iPhone 6, while also increasing the pixel size for a superior camera performance. The details come from EIS China analyst Sun Chang Xu, who posted them on Weibo (via GforGames).
According to Xu, the next-generation iPhone's camera will sport a larger pixel size of 1.75 um, a significant boost compared to the 1.5 um pixel size of the current iPhone 5S's camera. This would allow the smartphone's camera to take in more light, which would in turn result in a higher image quality.
Previous reports have claimed that Apple would launch its iPhone 6 with OIS, but this latest report with EIS doesn't seem too farfetched. Adding an EIS system would allow Apple to cram a slimmer camera into its flagship, which would not protrude out of the handset's body.
Ahead of this report, Xu had also previously noted on Weibo that the iPhone 6 will boast pressure, temperature, and humidity sensors, while the upcoming iWatch will employ optical sensors to monitor heart rates and oxygen levels.
Other previous rumors include the general belief that Apple will launch two iPhone 6 models this year, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a larger 5.5-inch display. The 4.7-inch model will reportedly debut first, while the iPhablet may not even make it to market this year if component manufacturers are not able to have the battery ready in time under Apple's slimness requirements.
Moreover, both iPhone 6 models are also expected to rock a bezel-free design, thinner form factor, faster Apple A8 processor, as well as the company's Touch ID fingerprint sensor that debuted on the iPhone 5S. The next-generation smartphone will also come with a new iOS 8 on board, with various improvements to Maps, Siri, iCloud, and other areas. Lastly, recent rumors have also indicated that Apple is pushing carriers to impose a $100 price increase for the iPhone 6, but nothing was finalized.
As always in such cases, keep in mind that nothing is confirmed at this point and it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt for now.
